Disney’s The Lion King tells the story of the struggles of the young Lion Prince Simba, who prematurely must suddenly face his role of becoming the leader of the Pride Lands due to the unexpected death of his father, Mufasa. Mufasa, who is a beloved leader by the animals of the territory he rules, suffers betrayal from from Scar, Simba’s uncle, which leaves Simba without a father. This forces the young prince into into hiding for a long period of time, and jumpstarts Simba's long journey and his subsequent homecoming to his land and his rightful place as King.
Inspired by the late 1994 motion picture of the same name produced by Disney, The Lion King musical was beautifully adapted to the Broadway platform by director Julie Taymor and the spectacular ensemble and creative team. Its launch in 1997 was a fresh addition to theater, being received positively by critics. Greg Evans of Variety encapsulates The Lion King with unequivocal opinions in his article, stating that “Julie Taymor's approach of Disney's The Lion King is a wonder, a successful adaptation unquestionable in its creativity, uniqueness, and vigor.
