The musical Lion King tells the story of the life of the young Lion Prince Simba, who before his time must suddenly come to terms with his fate of becoming the King of the Pride Lands due to unjust killing of his father, Mufasa. Mufasa, who is a well-loved King by all of the Pride Lands, gets stabbed in the back by from Scar, Simba’s uncle, which leaves Simba without a father. This forces the young prince into into exile for a long period of time, and jumpstarts the Prince's personal change and his subsequent return to his land and his rightful place as King.

Taken from the previous 1994 motion picture of the the very same name produced by Disney, The play, The Lion King was accurately translated to the Broadway platform by director Julie Taymor and the awesome ensemble and creative team. Its launch in the 90s was a fresh addition to theater, being received positively by critics. Greg Evans of Variety encapsulates The Lion King with very positive words in his posting, mentioning that “Julie Taymor's approach of this classic musical is a wonder, a theatrical achievement unequaled in its creativity, uniqueness, and vigor. Leaping far beyond its celluloid inspiration, the live adaptation improves upon each and every component of the hit 1994 animated motion picture, from visual artistry and plot to Lebo M's writing and the beautifully African-inspired pop songs of Elton John and Tim Rice."

The stage adaptation was also met with the unrivaled posts from theatergoers. One specifically makes mention of how The Lion King can aptly be called “The best Broadway has to offer”, posting how he experienced that “the show was exceptional. It was full of color and the score makes you feel all kinds of emotion. The crafted 3D puppets really brought the characters to life.” Most theatergoers who have watched the musical over the previous 2 decades can attest that despite being the same plot of a film, Disney's The Lion King was a worthwhile show to watch.
